Navigate Brighton Fringe’s Weekend of Weird with this handy horoscope
By Ben Alborough
Like everyone in the world, we at Liebenspiel believe in Astrology. It is the guiding principle behind every single creative and business decision we make. We’re also producing and promoting the “Weekend of Weird” at the Wundabarn at Spiegelgardens from May 23-25th as part of the Brighton Fringe.
By consolidating these two interests into one easily manageable article we’re able to simultaneously compare and contrast both in a manner that may, for one, reflect well upon the content of a weekend programme of comedy events and, for the other, showcase some top quality self-care quackery. It’s then up to the reader to work out which is which.
Lachlan Werner: Wondertwunk
Aries
23rd May, 6pm
The first sign of the Zodiac, Aries loves to be number one. They are ambitious and daring. Lachy is the very model of daring, taking on the role of Jack Hammer, the strongest boy in the world. He can lift a ten tonne truck and crush the strongest steel. Just don't get too close. His management says you can look, but you can't touch.
Siblings: Dreams in Progress
Taurus
23rd May, 7.30pm
Stubborn but craving comfort and stability, Maddy and Marina Bye are Taurean to their core. The exact details of how this manifests eludes us at Liebenspiel, but from what we gather they are incredibly unwilling to change the fact that both of them have the same parents. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let the editor know.
A Night of Drama
Gemini
23rd May, 9pm
This one’s easy – there are two of them.
Freddie Hayes: The Magic Lady
Cancer
24th May, 3pm
Cancers are highly intuitive, with their natural psychic skills physically manifesting in both emotional and material realms. However, this has nothing to do with magic as magic is magic and psychics is science. What we can say though is that at least 50% of all Cancers are ladies, which is what this show is about.
Levi Meltzer & Sam Berlin: Readymades
Leo
24th May, 4.30pm
Leo is the Latin word for “Lion” and this show about lavatory attendants could not be a better fit. The courage and bravery poured into this show makes a mockery of the heroism demonstrated by our tommies on the battlefields of Verdun and Gallipoli.
Ada & Bron: The Origin of Love
Virgo
24th May, 6pm
Virgo is an earth sign historically represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture, and Ada and Bron eat a lot of bread. Unleavened, leavened, they’ll eat it all.
Rosalie Minnitt: Clementine 3: The Rebellion On Ice Part 6 (WIP)
Libra
24th May, 7.30pm
Rosalie is a classic Libra. Obsessed with symmetry and establishing equilibrium, Rosalie can never be in an area that isn’t exactly room temperature. This makes the “On Ice” part of her show quite a logistical challenge but I’m sure she’ll rise to it.
The Glang Show
Scorpio
24th May, 9pm
Scorpios are elusive and mysterious, I can confirm that even the confines of a parody horoscope are not blurry enough to describe The Glang Show.
Just The Two Of Us! (WIP)
Sagittarius
25th May, 6.30pm
Maria Telnikoff and Vidya Divakaran are Sagittarians in the sense that they are always on a quest for knowledge – and they have obtained it, having successfully engaged Liebenspiel to produce their upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show.
Lorna Rose Treen (WIP) (it's set in a diner)
Capricorn
25th May, 8pm
The most valuable resource for Capricorns is time. Known for their patience, perseverance and dedication, Lorna has already announced that the name of this show when it’s completed will be “24 Hour Diner People”. And what could be more time-sensitive than a literal description of a period of time?
Stepdads Les Mis
Aquarius
25th May, 9.30pm
An Aquarius is dedicated to making the world a better place, and in this show Luke Rollason & Tom Penn intend to fulfill that mission by adapting Victor Hugo’s novel “Les Miserables” for the stage for the first time. It cannot possibly go wrong, not least because I’ve been cast in it.
You may have noticed that we haven’t included Pisces and that’s because we didn’t book twelve shows. Thus the conceit of this article completely collapses.
The Weekend of Weird runs May 23rd-25th at Brighton Fringe’s “Wundabarn at SpiegelGardens”. Quote the phrase “brightongetaway” to venue staff on the day and get a confused look. Tickets here
