We’re excited about the Edinburgh Fringe, but it’s clear it needs to change. A lot of people have a lot of ideas, but nothing has really happened yet. So we decided to ask the comedians themselves: in your fantasy, what would the Fringe look like? It might have been a mistake.

The Daily Mail conducted an interview with Laura Ramoso’s German Mother about her daughter’s Edinburgh Fringe show. The reporter was so uncomfortable that the interview never made it to print. Passing by the Daily Mail offices, we spotted the interview in the bin soaked in media tears, so we scooped it up and published it ourselves.

Daily Mail: Hello! I’ve been told you are answering questions on behalf of your daughter Laura today? Tell us about yourself!

German Mother: I am German Mom. And who are you?

DM: I’m a reporter from the Daily Mail!

GM: A better paper did not want to hire you?

DM: Um…well I’m here to write a feature on Laura’s Fringe show. Are you comfortable answering a few questions?

GM: Of course I am comfortable. You are the one who does not seem comfortable.

DM: Y-yes. How did Laura come up with the name of her show, FRANCES, that she’s taking to the fringe?

GM: What kind of question is that? How does one come up with anything? You think it.

DM: Can you tell us about her show?

Laura’s German Mom

GM: It is a sketch show. It is one hour long and there are 12 sketches inside. I am hearing it is supposed to be “comedy”. We will have to see about that.

DM: What do you think sets her show apart from others at the festival?

GM: Laura is 1.85m tall so you will be able to see her the whole time.

DM: How does she feel about performing at such a renowned and prestigious event like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?

GM: I have never heard of this festival before, so maybe it is not so renowned and prestigious.

DM: Hah. Well…right. Um, can you tell us a bit about Laura’s background as a performer?

She ignored my advice and did not get a medical degree, can you imagine? I do not know what she is doing when she is jumping and joking and clowning around in these shows. All I know is I paid for her theatre education, which I think is an oxymoron.

DM: What does Laura hope audiences will take away from her performance at the Fringe?

GM: I do not think she wants anyone to take anything away from the stage. I believe she will need her props and costumes the whole month.

DM: Laura also makes online videos for Instagram and TikTok (@lau_ramoso). Her “German Mom” character is probably one of her most popular ones…how do you feel about the videos she makes of you?

GM: Yes, well Laura is making fun of me in these sketches and I have to say it is not nice to take somebody’s personality traits and satirise them for likes. She has no idea how agonizing it is to watch the world laugh at you like this. It is making me sad, actually. And I would cry if I could produce tears.

DM: How will Laura handle nerves or stage fright before a performance at such a big event?

GM: Well, that is not a problem. Nerves are not real.

DM: Alright. Is there anything you are looking forward to seeing at the festival, German Mom?

GM: If Matthew Damon ever creates a one-man show titled My Bourne Identity, I will buy all the tickets.

DM: Thanks so much for your time, German Mom. I’d like to say it’s been a pleasure but it honestly hasn’t.

GM: The one thing we can both agree on.

Laura Ramoso: FRANCES runs at Pleasance Courtyard from August 2-13th, and Pleasance Dome 15-28th at 8:20pm. Tickets here
